Isaiah 54:1-10 — “Thank God for Unanswered Prayers”
“Clear lots of ground for your tents!
Make your tents large. Spread out! Think big!
Use plenty of rope,
drive the tent pegs deep.
You’re going to need lots of elbow room
for your growing family.” (Isaiah 54:2, TM)
When I was younger, like many young women, I dreamed of being a mother and having my own baby. During my first marriage, I was unable to conceive and have a baby. Before we could consider adoption or even spend more time trying to work through this problem, my husband left. It was a devastating time for me, but over time I understood that God had other plans for me.
I spent time praying that I would be able to forgive not just my ex-husband, but me. God and I had plenty of arguments during this time, but knowing that it was alright to be angry at God helped, after all, God is big enough to handle our anger. I was able to forgive and move on.
I now have the opportunity to get to know the children of the families within my congregations. I have the privilege of being part of their lives and their growing up. My family has grown much bigger than my own imagining.
God, thank you for answering my prayers the way that you know they need to be answered and not how I think they need to be answered. Amen.
