1 Peter 2:4-10

Come to him, a living stone, though rejected by mortals yet chosen and precious in God’s sight. (1 Peter 2:4; NRSV)

So many of us shrink in the sight of God, we feel we are unworthy and of no importance. The next time that feeling comes over you read this verse from 1 Peter. God has always found humankind to be precious from the moment of creation to today. But we say ‘yes, God finds humankind precious but not me’. God finds even you precious and you have been chosen for God as able to carry on the work of Jesus. We are so precious to God that even the hairs on our head are counted (Matthew 10:30). We are precious and chosen, we are not lost in the crowd and we cannot hide behind a rock. We all sin but do not allow the sin to confine you remember that to God you are precious and chosen and Jesus came to save you.

Loving God, you have chosen us and find us precious, help us to see those around us as precious and chosen, though Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
