Thanksgiving Day — Joel 2:21-27
“You will eat abundantly and be satisfied, and you will praise the name of the Lord your God, who has done wonders for you; and my people will never again be put to shame. You will know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God…” (Joel 2:26-27a, CEB)
Today, my eldest grandchild turns five. Five, I tell you! How did he get so old so quickly?! God has done wonders with him – he had heart surgery when he was three weeks old. You’d never know it to see him now! How grateful we are for his boyish energy and creativity!
Today, many families gather to share an enormous meal together and give thanks for all the good in their lives. Dinner could get cold if we were to try to name all the blessings! That’s why it’s important to be grateful every day, to say a small “thank you” at life’s wonders and good moments. Or to shout at the top of our lungs, “THANK YOU, JE-SUS!” Whatever works best for you at the time. J
However you have been blessed, the biggest blessing is the last part of that verse – “I am the Lord your God! THANK YOU, GOD! WITH YOU, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE! THANK YOU FOR BEING MY GOD!”
‘Nuff said. Amen.
