Isaiah 49:1-26
“Captives can be rescued”

But can booty be wrested from a warrior? Can a victor’s captives be freed? Here is Adonai’s answer: “Even a warrior’s captives will be snatched away, and the booty of the fearful will be freed. I will fight those who fight you, and I will save your children…. Then everyone will know that I, Adonai, am your Savior and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Ya‘akov.” (Isaiah 49:24-25, 26b, CJB)

The children of Israel were hauled away into captivity and punished for their many generations of disobedience to God. But God is confident that after many years in captivity they will repent and turn back to Him. God’s love for them is so strong that he is already making plans and promises for their restoration. This time his plans include giving them a new heart and a new hope. This time his plans will also make believers in other nations.

Verse 6 – “… he has said ‘It is not enough that you are merely my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and restore the offspring of Israel, I will also make you a light to the nations, so my salvation can spread to the ends of the earth”

This sounds very similar to Jesus Great Commission to his disciples and us. “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every person and make disciples in all nations.

The Good News: Men, women and children held captive by sin can be rescued and set free by the power of God through Jesus the Messiah.

Lord help us to be faithful to the commission you gave Isaiah and the disciples through Jesus. Give us faith and courage to work with you to rescue the captives and save the children.
