2 Samuel 6:1-23
A nation rejoicing about bringing God back to the center of their government? Radical!
So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet. (2 Samuel 6:16, KJV)
It was a great idea, but they thought they could do it their own way and a man died. The whole procession and celebration was abruptly stopped. Then they were reminded to read the instructions: God’s instructions. So, then they did it God’s way and had a wonderful day.
The Ark of the Covenant represented the presence of God. During most of King Saul’s reign, it was left out on a farm near an obscure village. King David wanted to make God central in his government and to symbolize that he wanted to bring the Ark into the Capitol City of Jerusalem. However, David found out the hard way that God will not be used or manipulated, If he really wanted God to be central, he would have to do it God’s way. So they read and followed God’s instructions. The whole nation rejoiced with King David to bring the presence of God back to the center of their lives and government.
Our Father which art in Heaven; Make your Name Hallowed in every home across our nation and every government leader. Bring on the power of Your Kingdom here as in Heaven; to transform the hearts of all our people to be more like you. Help us to learn to read God’s instructions and do things His way; making God central in our government.
